Well as promised here is yesterday's blog. Didn't get to bed til very late worrying but it's all done now.
So we got up slowly and pottered about a bit. Roanna helped Jill move a couple of cupboards around.we left and headed to town in time for low tide. Roanna wanted to beachcombing on Bains beach. It was lovely but not that much beachcombing to be had.
We then popped over to Bressay for a look at the lighthouse and Noss. The weather was actually good and calm with just the odd shower, sometimes haily. Lots of seals in the harbour
Roanna spotted the third otter of the trip on the harbour wall, but it didn't hang around.
We stopped at Ham beach for some more beachcombing. It was awesome loads of glass and pottery. Jill did take the quick route down to the beach though ending in very soggy trousers.
There were two mergansers watching us.
We drove to the other side to see Noss and visited Setter.
We hD a bit of time before the ferry so did a quick trip to Gulberwick beach. Not much there but a very stinky fire.. Then the problems started. We said our farewells at the ferry terminal for the 5.30 sailing. Very sad to see Ro go it's been such an amazing week.
We drove round to the harbour to watch the ferry go - it didn't. The engines where on and off, we could just about hear some tannoy messages but nothing happened. They were told onboard that there was a slight technical issue. We stayed watching on the harbour
Jill went to the office. Most staff had gone but one lady said they would probably disembark Orkney passengers and allow them to get to Aberdeen when fixed. Time ticked by with no information given, but we found out the cargo door hydraulics were broken and the door wouldn't close. They left at 11pm and only.then were told eta in Aberdeen now 4pm and not 7.30 am. Ros train was at 9.50 ish, but too late to get off.
It was incredibly rough as they were now sailing in the bad weather they were supposed to miss. ,80 mph winds Roanna had a really bad sailing as did everyone else and they didn't get in til 6 pm so, no train. Luckily she is now off the boat and in a b and b but the staff do not know if she will get that refunded until the management are in on Monday!!! It seems like non of the staff had any idea what to do in this situation and the staff on the boat were telling everyone to phone the office, but they didn't help. Really messy. I wouldn't have wanted to travel back on the same very with a ridiculously quick turn around. Yuk!
Might put her off failing next time. We absolutely appreciate breakdowns happen but they really need to be fair with passengers and management should be viable and not just seem to forget passengers are there. Such a shame.
We waited til it left at 11 so we have been tired today!
