Beeswax and polish

Jill got to task beeswaxing the new table in the kitchen.

Then it was a good leather cleaning kit used on the old sofa. Considering it has been covered in dust all year, it's not too bad.

Then there was time for  big of glossing on the stairs and on the landing.

Rob spent the day writing some letters xo in the afternoon, Jill popped out to collect a small amount of sand. We are mixing lime mortar for the porch so it needs to match with what is already there so builders sand won't work. Hopefully this should look right.

It was very wet so Hill felt sorry for the new lambs who looked a bit bedraggled. Especially the hill sheep as the lambs are much smaller.

It seemed a bit daft that the turnstones were all having a bath but there was a queue in the burn. There were still two purple Sandpipers about too.

Kestrel and cake

It was still quite chilly but it was actually quite bright so we got up early to see what we could see. We started at Melby with some nice purple Sandpipers

Then we went down South and had a hunting Kestrel at East Voe.

By the time we got to Sumburgh there were only a few puffins down low on the cliff but the usual Twite were there and there was Fulmar porn on the cliffs.

The Shags were also busy, collecting nesting material.

We stopped at a few places travelling North and picked up a total of 58 species today.

Oh and we stopped for cake at Hoswick. Yum.

Got to home to see that Jim had been in and worked on the porch ceiling. He's off for the next couple of weeks so uts good to get it done.

And this evening

Not the finest, but you have to start somewhere!!

Long way to go

Friday, so we were in Lerwick today for a hospital appointment. We left Bruce and Jim indoors as it was pretty wet. Bruce plasterboarded the bathroom,

And Jim worked on the porch ceiling

Jill squeezed in a bit of sanding and cut up some wood for the fire.

It's about time to join in with Shetland crafting. Haven't done it since in the brownies for a badge!!! Rubbish bit of crochet- long way to go......

But not bad from memory. Now need to do some research.

Sweeeet

Jill belted into Lerwick first thing to get some supplies from the builders merchants. She also got lucky finding a sweet chest of drawers. We think it used to be used for plans or artwork but it'll be lovely in a guest room.

Lots of mergansers on the way home

Bruce and Jim started on the roof as we had a broken tile that  scaffold board bounced off.

When that was fixed ( and Bruce got it off his nose). He went back to the bathroom and finished taping the insulation and plasterboarding.

Whilst Bruce worked inside it was dry enough outside so Jill and Jim painted some more wall

Rob went for a bit of a snooze so Jill went to check the Dale plantation and Melby.

Tidy up

Our great volunteer, Sean, was back today helping Jill in the garden. The chicken shelter got relocated to the new run. A good use of scrap...
