Trip to the vets

It was actually a nice day today so Jill spent some time outside shifting things from the byre to give us more space. Then it was over to Bixter with kitty to get her checked over. She did really well until she saw a dog and she really freaked out, poor thing. Still she checked out OK and apart from a really good dose of worming she is fine. Her name will be Geri. All the feral have spice orientated names and ginger spice, well.........

It was a lovely drive as the light was lovely and it was very calm.

Smattering of snow on the hills.

Felt a bit guilty as mum came looking for her today. But that gave Jill the opportunity to feed her.

Bruce was feeling a bit rough with a cold so just popped in for a bit today. No Jim either.

Late afternoon. Jill filled some holes with wood filler ready to finish another wall.

A funny thing happened in the byre.

It was move around day today. Clearing out timber and consolidating the two bedrooms upstairs. Also moving up a lot of stuff from the kitchen.

Whilst taken wood outside to the byre Jill noticed Bentley taking interest under the bench. Having a look, there was a little face.

A very underweight feral kitten . Out came the bag of biscuits and it was clearly very hungry and was so desperate it ate from fingers with no fuss. Scruff of the neck job and indoors with it. It won't last much longer out there.

It ate ravenously.

Then it got very bizarre. It moved in as if it had always been here.

She has eaten well and been defleaed and we will get her ( pretty sure it's a her although Jill didn't want to pull her about too much today) for a check up. It's been very bizarre. Don't expect feral to behave like this but she looks happy already. The others aren't so keen yet.

Stairs complete

We thought we were headed for the hospital tiday with Robs shoulder, but luckily the bone moved again and wasn't trapping a nerve.

Finally, yay FINALLY the staircase is back together again and finished. It's been a long job. Just needs a coat of wax oil now. Bruce put the new  finials on too.

Bruce also made the last windowsill. Sweeeet.

Jill did some more smashing in the old kitchen and painted the wall with a final coat upstairs.

One board has split so just needs some repair and then that wall is finished.

Moving bone

Poor Rob has been very uncomfortable the last few days as the broken bit of bone from his broken collar bone( since the car accident) has moved again and is pressing on the nerve underneath. Trip to hospital tomorrow.

Jill felt OK this morning but after lunch discovered she had done too much so we've both had  a day feeling rubbish! Did manage to get some caulking and painting done though. Where the wood in the landing has dried out the caulking has just needed redoing.

Bruce shaped the repairs on the bannister post, put the cupboard door back on and made a bedroom windowsill.

And Jim did the final Sand on the stairs.

Advent teas and a before and after

Bit of a quiet day today. Jill did some painting and caulking upstairs and then this afternoon we went to the village advent teas. Minor problem that when trying to avoid the wood and cement mixer pile that had shifted in the wind into the drive. Jill caught the back of the car on some wood the other side of the drive trying to avoid it. Minor dent in the bumper that will need fixing. Moral of the story make sure the delivery is totally moved out of the way! That delivery has been very troublesome and Jill is still not supposed to be doing any lifting but has managed to pull it further out of the way. Ho hum.

Still the advent teas and craft stalls were lovely and the festival of trees was very colourful and fun.

Today Jill found where Rob had hidden the original folder of house pictures so as promised a before and after of the porch.

And now

Bit of a wander

Jill had a long overdue chat with her sister last night. Catch up time!

Today was the first day for a while Jill had felt like going out. But, first things first, rescuing the piece of insulation embedded in the fence. Jill drove up and unhooked it but unfortunately it wouldn't fit in the car so she walked it back. Bentley, sneakily, followed all the way back to the car so he got bundled in and driven back!!

Jill met some new folk today with a stunning house. Glenn and Stella had very kindly offered us a bit of waste pipe so we don't have to waste a whole big bit, so, after dropping the cat back Jill went to collect it. They have an adorable new Irish Setter puppy.

Afterwards, a quick trip to Grutness beach and West Voe. Nice otter at Grutness and hundreds of Long Tailed ducks on the sea with a few Goldeneye and a good number of purple Sandpipers on the beach.

Short and sweeeettt.

Tidy up

Our great volunteer, Sean, was back today helping Jill in the garden. The chicken shelter got relocated to the new run. A good use of scrap...
