Doorstep

 Bit chilly again today

More work on the kitchen and door. Bruce did some more finishing on the cabinets. It's so close to being there.

Jim is making a doorstep out of the Thames barge. It's going to look perfect. The original threshold looked wrong. With a shopping list in hand ( usually written on all sorts by Bruce), we headed off. It all went well but we struggled to get the piece of brass we needed. After visiting several new businesses and making phone calls we found a bit. Our thanks to Ocean Kinetics for helping.  I think they were surprised when Jill deliberately picked the tarnished bit. Jim will work on adding it the the doorstop next week.

We also visited Garriocks final reductions in their closing down sale and picked up a shower and outside door for the extension.

On our return we saw the Snow Buntings by the house. Jill walked back with the camera.   The two young males are quickly changing plummage. Looking lovely.

Kitchen almost in

It might have started calm, but by the time we went past Fair Isle it was pretty rocky and rolly.  Still, we arrived on time and headed home.

It was exciting to see the guest accommodation kitchen taking shape.

It took a few changed ideas for Jim and Bruce to fit it, but it's looking good. Unfortunately the tub with all the fittings in, and the u bend went missing. Jim also found time to put the coving up and they both did a bit more work on the front door.  Looking good!

Jill moved some more slates about and did some gardening as it ended up being a lovely day. Some seed potatoes and onions in the mini veggie plot ( it is a bit bigger than the grave shape it was last year). Also Jill checked on the trees etc she put in last year. One or two didn't make it, but, on the whole they have done well.

Rob had a snooze, so, late afternoon Jill went out to see how much the hares had changed. They all moult in different patterns.

There was also lots of Turnstone and purple sands ay Melby and a lonely sounding golden plover.

Flat calm ferry

We had a nice breakfast in the b and b and slowly headed back to Aberdeen. We decided to make another quick stop for the squirrels, just in case next time the feeders have been taken down - which seems to happen a lot!

Lucky to be able to spend time with these dudes.

Then we went shopping , which didn't go well. Couldn't find a fridge the size we needed, B and Q were supposed to have had our coving in stock, only they had none, so we had to visit another B and Q - who only had 2 instead of 6. Then we went for a new microwave and they didn't have what they said they did either.  Sigh.

Made it to the ferry then all the stress disappeared as a pod or Porpoises surfaced behind the ferry- in the murky weather. Nice and calm though.

Tidy up

Our great volunteer, Sean, was back today helping Jill in the garden. The chicken shelter got relocated to the new run. A good use of scrap...
