Our first

Today was all about Up Helly Aa . The fire festival of 2023. It was a terrific day. We missed the morning parade but caught up with the galley and proclamation.  It blew and hailed on and off all day but behaved both for the junior and adult processions, although mighty cold. It did seem a shame to burn the beautiful galleys.

It was good to see ladies joining in for the first time. Will add lots more photos in the morning. The Internet is so slow tonight it has taken 25 mins to load 2 photos!

Let there be light

We had Nordri in today to put in some more of the electrics.

The bedroom now has electrics with sockets and lights. Looks really smart.

We will be able to put a TV in too. Never had one in the bedroom before. Have used the same lights in the corridor through to the old extension.

There is a new ceiling in the lobby.

Two of the bedrooms now have lights. One, the blue room,  has a new fitting that suits the room well.

Not sure about the other room yet.

The lads put the new floor down in the front room so it's not so cold in there. Tomorrow it will get a new lintel.

We are looking forward to our first Lerwick  fire festival. Up Helly Ya is very important here. We aren't doing the halls this year as Rob will find it a bit much, but we are looking forward to the procession. We aim to do some of the others too as others villages have their own - including Walls in March.

Night out

Well yesterday was a bit of a damp squib.  We headed to the hospital for Robs eye surgery but when we got there it was cancelled. Back on the waiting list! It wasn't a totally wasted though as the car was loaded for the tip before we left. Another 17 bags of rubble  gone. Wish skips weren't so ridiculously expensive.

We spent an hour watching the gulls etc in the harbour trying to cheer Rob up.

We then headed home to get ready to go out to our first Burns Night party at the hall. It was amazing and we made some new friends as we sat with the Drakeford family. The boys played with the band and were amazing.

It was a brilliant night out. Jill even did some dancing.

Today was very windy so Jill spent the morning doing some sanding and painting. Rob is behind on the paperwork for the extension and other bits and bobs so Jill left him for a couple of hours to get on. The seas were amazing with the spray over the cliffs reaching the house.

There were a lot of gulls around and a gannet, but the wind made them very hard to photograph. The Ravens near the house however seemed to be loving flying in the wind.

Tidy up

Our great volunteer, Sean, was back today helping Jill in the garden. The chicken shelter got relocated to the new run. A good use of scrap...
