Finally made it

Jill has been wanting to visit Fethaland, at the very far North of mainland, for ages. Today was the day. Lovely sunny weather for a change and no wind.

We left early, heading, to North Roe, which is always a lovely drive. Heard some crossbills and there were some redwings and fieldfares about.

We walked up to look at the derelict croft at the top . What a special view it had

It took most of the day but was well worth it. Very boggy underfoot and we lost the circular path.

Fethaland is as totally derelict fishing village. It was used from the 1500's  as appears to have around 28 houses with a much older archaeological site in the middle. It is simply stunning

It's hard to imagine how the community survived as deep sea conditions fishermen, rowing out to sea in open row boats, but it's left a very special place.
