Day 17 Hope to Winfield ( via Okanagan Valley)
Heading back, we set off from Hope heading to Osoyriss. It was 35 degrees, so mighty warm. Osoyross was very busy so we passed through quickly.
We visited Osoyross oxbow walk. Lots of birds to see but a bit warm for walking. A local couple showed Jill an Eagle nest.
It was good to see lots of Osprey posts along the road.
The Valley is very dry but so fertile so lots of wine and cherry growers. Also beautiful flowers and scenery
We arrived at Winfield quote late and birdwatcher the Road to Beaver Lake. Firstly we turned up the wrong way but it was good as we found a group of California quail on a front lawn. It was very hot and we had a nice chat with the gentleman owner but it was difficult to know where to look!
Beaver lake road is 26km packed full of birds. So we slept in the car to be there in the morning!
Day 18 Winfield to Calgary South.
Lots of lovely birds again. Different set though. Some obviously like an early start
We headed up through the Roclies but frustratingly the road was closed so we had an hour and a half diversion to get to Banff
Lovely views though. Before the weather changed.
We couldn't find a sensibly priced hotel in Calgary so parked up near a lake. We then had a great time there and at Franks lake. Sad to see lots of dead birds due to flu and we discovered the Franklin's gulls now don't breed thete in number. They stocked the lake with carp who eat the gulls food. Lots of good birds though
