Red River to Tombstone
Unfortunately, even with the lovely staff at the Roost helping us find a bed for the night, we had to give up. This gave us the idea of heading back South a bit earlier so we used the evening to drive on. We made it down the highway to the river crossings before they closed and slept in the car - putting us half a day ahead of ourselves.
The MacKenzie River ferry is full of cliff swallow nests.
We woke to thick, which was a shame co sidering where we had parked up!
The weather cleared quickly as we drove so we pooled a bit and did some general 'pishing' at random bushes and got some good new birds and some repeat species.
We visited the cliffs on the Highway to listen to Gyr Falcon in the ravine and finished the day watching a beaver family until the mosquitos got the better of us. They are BAD!
Tombstone airfield to Whitehorse
Well, not much of an airfield really.
Just a gravel track where we parked up for the night. We woke up to a bird call we had been looking for. Smiths Longspur. It remained heard and not seen.
We continued back down the Highway, stopping enroute for birds, flowers and views
Leaving the Dempster Highway , we finished the day on the Alaska highway to Whitehorse. A lot of driving but it gives us the chance to pop into Alaska tomorrow.
