Unexpected visitor

Popped to the GP'S this morning for our welcome to the surgery checks.  They are still missing files from Norfolk  which is very poor, but no surprise. Everything going well and we think the views from the surgery help with lowering of blood pressure.

A quick stop on the way home to the village shop. Always well stocked and they have a great sense of humour.

When we arrived back our unexpected visitor was there and roof repairs had stopped. He was from planning enforcement! Someone had complained we were doing work without planning. We showed him around and explained the roof repairs and window replacement is essential repairs and not altering the building structure. If the damage was left unchecked it would possibly be too late to repair. It was unexpected as we had spoken to planning about the C listing and been told as long as we didn't damage the structure our plans were fine, although we need planning for our extension. Jill pointed out that several things mentioned on the listing where incorrect and even didn't exist and that we are not knocking walls down and will infact be replacing the windows with more appropriate wooden ones.

He was very helpful but we contacted planning afterwards to speak to the person we spoke to in October but they were off sick. We will continue to make it watertight and write in saying what we are doing so we can get back on track.

In the afternoon we took out the broken sink and removed a small piece of broken woodpaneling so we can see what was behind as we need to order some insulation board. It was quite interesting to see the internal make up.

Sort of a set back day. Not because of enforcement- we want to get it right - but the fact that someone does not support what we are doing to save this beautiful house. Bit sad.
