We invited one of our guests to Out Skerries today as he is a good birder. It was a truly beautiful day and the sea was really calm. There had been a Hoopoe about for a few days and we were pleased it was still there but it was difficult and flighty. We started one end of the ridge and walked along the area it ha been seen.
The sheep here are just odd!
We found the Hoopoe but only in flight and very distant.
Yup, that's how far away!
Actually most things were distant today, but we had Kestrel, Robin, 2 Whitethroat, 2 Lesser whitethoat, 5 blackcap, 2 spotted flycatchers,3 whinchat, around 14 willow warblers, 2 grey herons, 2 whimbrel and 2 skylarks, also a painted Lady and small tortoiseshell.
We also saw 2 minki whales, 2 sooty shearwater and 1 manx shearwater.
