Flora

Apologies for those that read the start of the blog. The Internet went down!

Jill has wanted to visit the nature reserve called the Keen of Hamar for ages but we hadn't yet made it. Today was the day!

We left early ish and pootled in the nice weather. We found a lovely pair of Red throated divers on the way.

Off we went to the ferry terminal at toft to head for Unst.

The Keen of Hamar is an unusual place packed full of flowers of the alpine type.

Quite a lot of new species for Jill, some yet to be identified.

Mountain everlasting

Kidney vetch

Heath (likely) dog violet.

Early purple orchid ( 100's). Lots of different shades of purple.

Lots of moss campion.

Think Jill found one of the unusual ones. Shetland mousear.

Arctic sandwort.

This tiny one yet to be identified

Alpine butterwort yet to flower( possibly)

And lots of unusual moss and grasses.

Bladder moss?
 Tormantil.
And squill.

Then there is this one that I can't find in my fliwer book

The views from the top over Baltasound and Haroldswick are amazing.

We then went into Baltasound to look for the White Billed diver.

A super, super day.
On the way home we picked up some nice Sanderling a summer plummage turnstones.
