Shrike day

Frustrating start to the day as there was lots of bird news but Rob had his usual Friday hospital appointment so we had to wait til that was done. We also had a appointment with the business grant people which looks like it will be good news.

After lunch we headed down to Grutness as there were birds all over the south of the island passing through. We met a lovely couple at Grutness from Oregon, Mardy and Terry. Rob enjoyed his chat with them immensely.

We had our first Red backed Shrike near Levenwick by the road but unfortunately it wasn't a good place to stop. We did catch up with the next one at Grutness, then 2 near Quendale, 4 at Quendale Mill area, one at Rerwick and 2 at Geosetter. We also had Marsh Warbler, Garden Warbler, Short Eared Owl, Sedge Warbler; Black Cap and a Mealy Redpoll.

We had 55 species in total today so a good day. So many Shrikes! First Arctic Skuas of the year too.

We also caught up with out friend Penny at Geosetter just in time to see the short eared owl.

We got back late so will have to wait til the morning to see what Bruce and Jim did today

Lovely day a bit wasted

It was almost summer like today so it was good to be working outside. Jill carried on with the path. It's half done and looking  pretty...
