We had a full day off today, although Rob had an eye appointment in Lerwick.
We took a sandwich and ate it watching Grutness pool. Apart from a dunlin and a couple of Eider in the bay it was quiet. There was a willow warbler lurking in the sycamores in the garden of the house at Grutness.
While we were there the news broke of an Arctic Warbler, found by our new friend Anne Powell, at Geosetter Burn. This was a new location for us so we were keen to head off. Rob has seen Arctic Warblers before but it was a new species for Jill.
Geosetter was a lovely location with lots of willows along its banks. A really pretty spot with lovely views and a good suntrap. It was about 19 degrees today.
The warbler was refound while we were there and we watched it for a couple of hours. Rob had to watch from above as it was very rough ground. It was being moved around by a pied flycatcher and a Wren.
Super little bird.
Tonight we are going to try for an aurora if we can stay awake!
