Basking in sunshine

We did a few bits of cleaning this morning and then, as the sun was shining, we headed out going South. We were hopeful of picking up one of the basking sharks that had been around the islands.

Firstly we went looking at gulls in Lerwick Harbour hoping for a Glaucous gull. No sign, but we saw lots of Black Backed Gulls and seals.

Then we headed down to Sumburgh and had a quick lunch in the cafe. Just as we ordered the Cetcacean what's app group went off with news of a basking shark, just spotted at Sumburgh under the cafe. Jill quickly headed off and got some shots. Then gave herself indigestion eating really quickly to get back. It was very active and close to shore.

On the way home we popped to the pool of Virkie and Melby beach to find some waders.

Met a really nice chap called Noel who has been walking the islands and Highlands for four and a half years living in a tent. What a special way to see the Scottish countryside.

We were also lucky to spot two hares. Obviously youngsters having fun. One was playing roll polys down the hill. Sorry its a rubbish picture.
