Better

Good falls of both lapwings and Golden plover yesterday right by the house.

Jill has had a cold but is feeling better so she went to get some breakfast items for our new guests. She stopped at Twatt to see the Pectoral Sandpiper. Distant but, a  Shetland tick.

Our guests are off to Unst so left early. We went out for a bit as Jill changed her PA day. ( didn't want to share the cold). We needed a break from all the angst over the heating leak

The sun was out so we went back to Asta for the Siberian Thrush. Much better!

We had lots of both continental and European blackbirds.

Plenty of house Sparrows  and some Siskin at Quendale. But no Red Breasted Flycatcher.

We saw a few other birds on the way home.

While we were at Quendale and fellow birder pointed out a very tiny hedgehog that wasn't moving. It is very tiny and underweight for the time of year and was cold.  We brought it home and are trying to encourage it to eat.  At least it isn't dehydrated. It is in a box on the heated floor to warm it up. Fingers crossed.

Internet, where have you gone!

Very frustrating couple of days. Don't mind the wind- and it didn't get a peerie bit fresh, but the electrics have been a bit on and off and the internet, just about, non- existent. Can't blog with no Internet!

We have both spent a great deal of time battling with stupid people, Rob thinks they are stupid, Jill just thinks actually they are being clever as it looks like the plumbing company are trying to get away with not repairing the damage they did putting the heating in. Jill is not one for using the blog  to name names but we have substantial damage and they have basically stuck their finger up, so, Hughes Heating (Shetland) Ltd, we really don't like you very much. We have been told legally by trading standards that we are right and legally they should fix, our MP said they definately should fix it, our insurance company won't help as we did not do the accidental damage so they have said the plumbers should do it. Where does that leave us. Well, nowhere. So , as they have admitted the 'leak' ( actually flood at 120+ litres) in writing through the grant people- it looks like we will have to sue, so commencement of more paperwork starts on Monday. Sigh! Why can't people take responsibility for anything anymore!.

So, sorry about that, normal blogging proceeds.

Jill got another project gorgeous our wee porch/ breakfast room. We thought breakfast could easily be done in two shifts but as everyone is enjoying a good yarn, we need to bring the emergency room into use. It works wonders and is lovely and warm. It just needed a higher table. Found a wee one on cope that needs plenty of love, but it works perfectly.

Jill had a quick spot of birdwatching in Lerwick before coming home with the new table. A few bits and bobs but it was starting to get windy.

Then the wind really picked up. It's been very loud but also awesome inspiring. Rough seas are stunning. It also meant we were full as the ferries weren't running. We didnt put our prices up!

Got to feel sorry for the sheep!

We moved our new sofa into place and then went back for the Siberian  Thrush  this afternoon. It showed much better and Rob saw it this time too.

We got another two 10 out of 10's for booking . Com with some amazing feedback. We are chuffed

Busy

Missing in action. It's gone mad here with a constant stream of lovely guests. It takes a while to get in to a rythym keeping up with change over as our lovely folk don't want to leave and often end up staying extra days.

This weekend we are full.

We have managed to get out a bit but not much. The weather hasn't been great.

We went to Scatstaafor a bit to try and see the siberian thrush. No sign but we saw lots of Bramblings, moorhens and a Robin.

Jill found a song thrush at Kinkwall.

And there were quite a few common gulls about.

Today another siberian thrush was found at Asta. We waited for the crowd to die down as there was a lot of cars!. We got there but  it didnt show well. Rob didn't get on it but Jill had a few glimpses. No photos though and it was chilly.

Whoopsi!

Quick trip into town and a stop at Mairs Pier. Good numbers of Kittiwakes, Terns and Tysties. Yesterday, as we had no one checking in, we t...
