Helping out

We had another lovely trip to Out Skerries today although it was a wee bit rougher than usual. You know it's going to be a bit bumpy when they tie the car to the deck!

Well worth it though as there were lots of gannets bobbing about on the sea and we had a sooty shearwater follow the ferry. Bit dark though for good photos. Not every photo can be perfect.

There were a few migrants about dropping in as the day went on.

Just after lunch, near the harbour on the track, Jill spotted an odd black bundle.

On closer inspection it turned out to be a totally exhausted Storm Petrel!.

It couldn't be left where it was and it was too tired to move itself. So very carefully we checked it for injuries and put it in a dark box for a few hours rest. We knew it was feeling better as it was moving around so we placed it on a rock and it flew off to sea. All the best fella.

( PS we didn't want to stress it out so only took these two shots with the phone as it was going in the box)

Then we went and had a coffee with Paul at the lovely Rocklea Retreat. A super place to stay if you ever need any accommodation on Out Skerries.

Below statutory Skerries Peacock photo.
