Day 6 and 7

Two days without Internet so now time to catch up.

Day 6 Campbell Highway ( Watson Lake) to Dawson City

We ended Day 5 with a late push from Watson Lake and started the Campbell highway ( gravel road). Sleeping in the car about 150 km in. It was well worth it though with sightings of beaver and 5 seperate porcupines. Adorable things that talk to themselves the whole time.

We finished photographing them as the light went at 11pm then watched a beautiful sunset.

We headed off about 2am for a marathon day of 1000 km heading for the start of the Dempster Highway. It was a lovely day with a grizzly bear hiding in the undergrowth first thing. Then lots of lovely landscapes.

We had planned to stay at the Klondike Motel but although it is still on Google, it burnt down 12 years ago so we headed for Dawson City. What an awesome place but a bit shabby in places. We managed to find a hostel with space over the river which was a bit hairy as it involved a very hairy trip on a ferry over a very swollen river. Makes Shetland ferries seem tame.

Day 7 Dawson  city to Eagle Plain

Breakfast was warm tasty muffin at the Red Mammoth cafe then off to the highway. Better views of Beaver  then a day of good birds, changeable weather and fantastic scenery.
